Construction concentrates management system risk more sharply than any other sector: work is temporary, sites are dispersed, the workforce is largely contracted, and the consequences of a control failure are immediate and physical. It is also the sector where certification is most often a hard tender requirement.

ISO 45001 does the heavy lifting, particularly through its explicit extension to contractors, procurement and outsourced processes — the interfaces where a large share of serious site incidents originate. ISO 14001 addresses site environmental controls, debris, dust, effluent and consent conditions. ISO 9001 addresses the workmanship, inspection and handover documentation that determines whether a project closes cleanly.
